By Benard Akoma 20/03/2025

The two chambers of the national Assembly, the senate and the House of Representatives have independently approved the decision of President Bola Tinubu to impose a six month suspension on democratic governance in Rivers State.

Both Chambers in their sittings March 20, 2025 respectively endorsed the action of the president March 18, 2025, in which the Rivers’ state governor, Sim Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu were suspended from office by Mr. President for a period of six months.

While the decision of the senate was taken in a closed door meeting, the House of Representatives debated and took its decision during plenary.

Meanwhile, as the senate resolved to form a mediation committee to resolve the crisis, the House of Representatives approved the action of the president with a proviso that the suspension could be lifted before the expiration of the six months period if normalcy returns.
