The senior special adviser to FCT minister Nysom Wike, Lere Olayinke has said that the current headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is no longer the property of the party.
Fielding questions on Arise TV morning Show, March 25, Wike Aides explained “that contrary to the general belief, the property on paper does not belong to PDP instead what is available is that the property belongs to Senator Samaila Mamman and the revocation letter was sent to him in his Kaduna residence,” he emphasized
While he acknowledged that PDP made attempts to buy the property in 2005 during Mallam El-Rufai tenure as minister of federal Capital Territory, FCT, but they could not pay the requisite rate then that would have transferred ownership to the party.
According to the Minister’s Aide, “PDP wrote the then Minister of FCT, El-Rufai, expressing its intention to acquire the property. The minister wrote back requesting them to pay a ground rent of N26.9m.
But Vincent Ogbulafor, the then national chairman of PDP, he said, wrote back stating that they have no money. Meanwhile El-Rufai, just like Wike insisted that the right procedure should be followed," he explained.
It is simply the implementation of that right procedure now that people are trying to misinterpret as witching hunting the PDP by the current minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, Olayinka narrated.
Meanwhile Olayinka suggested that PDP still has a window for amendment if they want to reclaim the property.
According to him, they can address a letter to FCT begging for leniency while adducing reasons why they have not been able to pay the ground rent since 2005. Olayinke maintained that such requests will be treated on its merits with others at the discretion of the minister.
Until then he insisted, saying, “ by the current revocation order, the PDP Secretariat at Wuse and its uncompleted secretariat at Central Businee District, Abuja remain the property of the federal Capital Territory.”
