The House of Representatives on Tuesday, July 11th 2023, moved to set up adhoc committee to investigate the recent hike in fees of Unity Schools and Colleges with a view to reversing them.
The committee will also review the funding system in our Unity Schools and Colleges and profer a better funding approaches that would reposition our schools and improve the students learning process.
This was the outcome a motion moved by the member representing Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency, Hon. Nkemkanma Kama, on the floor of the house during plenary, July 11.
The motion which was seconded by Hon. Olumide Osoba, urged the house to prevail on the federal ministry of education for a possible review of the new school fees regime in federal government colleges.
The motion further called on the Federal government to adequately fund the education sector by increasing budgetary provisions to ensure that Nigerian students have access to quality and affordable basic and senior secondary education".
Hon. Kama prayed the house to prevail on the federal government to ensure that basic education remains accessible and affordable to Nigerians.
It is expected that the outcome of the report will be made available in four weeks time for further legislative action.
Hon. Kama who ran a robust electioneering campaign on the "H-I-P-E agenda mantra (with 'E' standing for Education) is obviously living up to his campaign promises of ensuring a better education sector, primarily to his constituents and generally to Nigerians.
